The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre in a joint venture with Reach Canada is offering “diversABILITIES Training: Changing Perspectives” to help organizations achieve even more success as inclusive and accessible workplaces.
These half-day or full-day training seminars are available in either English or French and include a variety of proven adult learning strategies: experiential sensitivity exercises, facilitated group discussions, audio-visual materials, quizzes, case studies, hand-outs, etc. In addition we may invite a presenter from our Speaker’s Bureau to address your specific issues.
Topics covered typically include: disability as a dimension of diversity, popular and personal pictures of disability, prevalence of disability, customer service principles, barriers to inclusion, accommodations and relevant legislation, etc. These modules can be mixed to customize the training experience.
The legal backdrop of this training is the recent implementation of the Customer Service Standard (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Bill 118) which incorporate core principles of service standards, including dignity, equity, inclusion, independence and responsiveness to persons with disabilities. This means that organizations who fail to implement this Standard may be at risk for lawsuits and/or other negative publicity.
Sessions on diversABILITIES Training have been held recently with government departments and the private sector and the written feedback was excellent including, “fantastic, amazing, phenomenal”, “Should be on film”, “it’s a great workshop even for those of us who are already converted; I still learned something”, “thought provoking”.
