Summer Camps for Children and Youth
Camps Offered through the City of Ottawa:


Ottawa Community Centre’s “Shared Care” camp programs

Regular day camps for youth of various ages that integrate youth with special needs into various activities.* Camps run in July and August. Pre-care and post-care available at some locations.

SNAP Camp (for children with Autism)

Therapeutic recreation camp for children and youth, aged 6-12, with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Activities include a swim component, snack time, and recreational activities chosen to build on communication, socialization and gross motor skills.

Aqua SNAP (for youth with Autism)

Swim lessons for children and youth, aged 5-14. Builds on motor skills, communication, socialization, and survival skills in an aquatic environment. Intake/assessment is required before participation.

Dates: July 10-August 14 (Mondays only) & July 5-August 16 (Wednesdays only)

Teen SNAP Camp (for teenagers with Autism)

Therapeutic recreation camp for teens, aged 13-18, with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The camp is designed to help develop social, communication, and recreational skills along with physical fitness, healthy living and self-confidence. Intake is required for new participants.

Rock, Rattle and Roll

Summer camp for youth, aged 6-15, who require physical and or medical support.*

Dates: July 4-7, July 10-14 & July 24-28

Summer Success

Therapeutic recreation camp for children, aged 6-9 and 10-12, who have ADHD, learning disabilities and/or behavioural difficulties. The camp provides a positive, supportive environment that follows the Summer Treatment Plan model. Intake is required for new participants.

Dates differ depending on location

Locations: (1) Cairine Wilson Secondary School (975 Orleans Blvd); (2) Confederation High School (1645 Woodroffe Ave); (3) McNabb Recreation Centre (180 Percy St)


Camp Explore

Camp for children, aged 8-12, with developmental disabilities. The camp includes leisure activities and helps develop social skills with arts and crafts, music, games and swimming. Intake is required for new participants.

Dates differ depending on location

Locations: (1) Carleton Heights Community Centre (1665 Apeldoorn Ave); (2) Richcraft Recreation Complex – Kanata (4101 Innovation Dr); (3) Southpointe Community Building (220 Stoneway)


Other Camps and Activities


Spectrum Insights Social Skills Camp

Summer Camp for teens and adults, aged 12-17 (for co-ed camp) and 12-20 (for girl’s only camp), on the Autism Spectrum. Various activities and outings with a focus on developing independent living skills, social skills, and making friends. Groups are small to focus on the needs of individual participants.

Sonshine Cove

Overnight summer camp for youth with special needs and living in foster homes or group homes. Programs are tailored for the specific age and ability of each camper.* Example of available programs include diving, waterskiing, tubing, cliff jumping, fishing, boating, canoeing, sailing, paddle boats, hiking, mini-olympics, wagon-rides, scavenger hunts, campfires, sports, games, arts and crafts, sing-a-longs, Bible quizzes and stories.

Summer Day Camps at Dovercourt

Dovercourt is strongly committed to the inclusion of campers with special needs and offers day camps for youth, aged 4-teen, with a wide range of activities. Parents of prospective campers are encouraged to make management aware of any requirements for medical or other conditions at the time of registration, so that any additional supports or resources can be arranged. Types of camps include: art, music, drama, cooking, sports, science & technology, overnight, and more.

Dates: Camps run from July 3 to September 1

The Lanark County Therapeutic Riding Program

Offering a specialized form of horseback-riding to people with physical and/or developmental disabilities.

Camp Kennebec

Overnight summer camp for youth with special needs, learning disabilities and developmental delays, including Asperger’s, ADHD, ADD, Down Syndrome, OCD, brain injury, anxiety, and other challenges. Camp offers individual daily schedules based on individual campers’ needs and ensures a low 2:1 camper to cabin staff ratio.

Dates: camps start on July 2 and run until August 26

Camp Kodiak

A unique, integrated overnight summer camp for youth with and without ADHD, learning disabilities, and high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder. All camp activities are planned with a view to teaching skills, building confidence and improving self-esteem. Activities include overnight camping, mountain biking, canoeing/kayaking, drama and music, sports, and computers. All campers also take part in an academic program for 1 hour a day.

Building Blocks

Information has not yet been posted for summer 2017

Typically holds summer camp programs for children, aged 6-11, 10 diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Asperger’s Syndrome (AS), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD), Non-Verbal Language Disorders, and other related exceptionalities. Programs are focused on science experiments and cooperative games.


Camp Kaleidoscope

Typically holds all day Summer Camps for children and youth, aged 4-20, diagnosed within the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and offers a 1:1 and 2:1 supervision ratio.

Friends in Sportfishing

Trips made by appointment only

Friends in Sportfishing is a volunteer run charitable organization dedicated to providing free fishing experiences for any group of people with special needs in the community. All the boats, crews and fishing equipment are provided.

Dates: season runs from June to August, Monday-Friday with morning trips from 9AM-12:30PM and afternoon trips from 1-3:30PM

Summer Camps for Adults

Summer Sizzler

Interactive recreation program for individuals ages 18-35 with developmental disabilities.

Participants will be encouraged to plan a variety of activities, including sports, games, cooking and crafts. An intake is required prior to the start of program for new participants.

Special Needs Camp Social

Social and recreational camp for independent adults ages 19-50 with developmental disabilities. Activities include games, dancing, art, and outdoor activities. Camp includes one outing and a special guest.
